These are maximums. Pinterest does not say that using the full length helps a Pin.
Pin Title Character Limit
Pinterest's Pin specs give the title a maximum of 100 characters for both image and video Pins.
Not all of it may show in the feed. Pinterest's ad specs page says that, depending on the device, the first 40 characters may show in people's feeds. For Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and other double-byte languages, it says only the first 30 characters show.
So put the subject of the Pin early. "Small Kitchen Storage Ideas for Renters" tells people what the Pin is about in the part most likely to be seen.
The ad specs page also says that if you leave the title empty and there is no Rich Pin title, nothing shows in its place in the feed.
Pin Description Character Limit
Pinterest's Pin specs say you can "enter up to 800 characters" in a Pin description.
Pinterest also says descriptions do not appear when people view the Pin in the home feed or search feed. It says descriptions are used by its algorithm to determine relevance for delivery, and it recommends adding one.
Use the space to explain what the Pin and the linked page offer. Write in plain sentences. A list of repeated keywords is harder to read and Pinterest does not say it helps.
Why Do Some Sites Say 500 Characters?
You will find two numbers for Pin descriptions online: 500 and 800. Both appear in Pinterest Help, for different workflows.
- Creating a Pin: Pinterest's Pin specs allow up to 800 characters.
- Bulk upload with a .csv file: Pinterest's Bulk upload Pins page lists a 500-character maximum for the Description column.
Some third-party pages and counters still use 500 for every Pin. If you create Pins one at a time, Pinterest's current Pin specs say 800. If you upload a spreadsheet, keep descriptions to 500.
Bios have the same kind of mix-up. Some counters list 160 characters. Pinterest's Edit your profile page says you can enter a bio of up to 500 characters.
Alt Text Character Limit
Pinterest's Add alternative text page says alt text can be up to 500 characters. It says you can only add alt text to standard Pins and video Pins at this time.

Pinterest Bio Character Limit
Pinterest's Edit your profile page says to enter your bio under About, "up to 500 characters". The same limit appears in the web steps and the app steps.

Pinterest says you need a business account to bulk upload, and that you can upload up to 200 images or videos with its bulk creation tool. If you write descriptions for the 800-character limit and then move them into a spreadsheet, check the length first.
Limits Pinterest Does Not Publish
Pinterest's Edit your profile page says usernames must be between 3 and 30 characters. Usernames can contain letters, numbers and underscores, but cannot contain spaces, punctuation or only numbers.
